Birth Support
Community Doulas is dedicated to the belief that all birthing people deserve the care of a doula, regardless of social or economic status.
What do we do?
We provide birth doula services to birthing people and their families who live in Maine and parts of New Hampshire.
Our organization focuses on improving birth outcomes for all pregnant people, especially those experiencing social or economic hardship. We hope to confidently support, educate, and guide them through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
We offer the following support to birthing persons and their families:
Prenatal consulting and education
Continuous labor support
Postpartum support
Adoption support - both for the birthing person and the adoptive parents
Loss support – pregnancy loss, adoption loss, stillbirth planned Cesarean support
What happens next?
Once you have completed our Birth Support Inquiry, you can expect to hear back within a few days.
You will be matched with a doula and can interview them.
Once you decide to move forward with your doula, you will complete our Birth Support Profile (online) and schedule your
first prenatal appointment with your doula. This appointment typically lasts 1-2 hours and is a time to ask questions, get to
know one another, and establish your relationship. You and your doula will schedule one additional prenatal visit, lasting 1-2 hour before you are due.
Your doula will be available to you 24/7 from 38 weeks until the birth of your baby.
Once in labor you will call your doula for continuous labor support, including phone and in-home support
Your doula will assist you with first contact and feeding immediately after birth, and stay until you and your family are ready for some alone time.
Your doula will schedule one postpartum visit within 7-10 days of your discharge from the hospital or birth
center.
What is a birth doula?
A doula provides physical, emotional, and educational support to both the pregnant person and their partner. They work with a family prenatally to prepare for the birth, stay for the duration of the labor (whether be at home, in a birthing center, or at a hospital) and assist with the postpartum adjustment.
Doulas encourage, normalize, massage, coach and act as a living resource guide. They bear witness to
the amazing transformation that birth is.
